The Hit

Knowing that the SSR must capture or kill the high-ranking Nazis to prevent their organisation gaining the occult knowledge of the site, they rearm to take on their opponents in one final mortal combat.

Blazkowicz knows that Lehmann is the key to the entire operation, and must be captured or killed to halt the danger...

The German camp, where Lehmann is located, along with Stahl and Kerschner.
Carter is with some of the Marines behind a rocky outcrop and they're ready to attack
They scoot around the flank approaching from behind a parked gun truck and a ruined temple
Stahl takes cover inside a lean-to. Only the glint of his steel mask is visible
Blazkowicz and Waterson take position behind a fence and he opens fire on Grimmer on the rooftop
One of Kerschner's men takes cover behind Lehmann's touring car; jumping inside as he starts to take fire
Carter takes position behind the machine gun on the truck, with Helfer at the wheel. The touring car comes off second best out of this encounter!
Blazkowicz rushes towards the house, with Waterson giving him covering fire with her rifle
Kerschner races them to the house...
As a desperate hand to hand battle takes place inside with Blazkowicz driving off the Germans and capturing Lehmann.
The Nazis attempt to rescue Lehmann is successful, and Lehman runs around the house
Carter guns down both Germans and then Stahl when he emerges from the house to board the guntruck!
Lehmann runs for it, and with amazing luck shoots Simmon's SMG out of his hands. Simmons has one shot left with his pistol, but misses and then Lehmann disappears into the desert...
Nicely rounded off campaign if I do say so myself. Plus, with Lehmann's escape, the dice kept things wide open for a sequel; which I'm running at Leprecon next weekend!

The Tomb

Blazkowicz meets up with a hand-picked team of US Marines who will help the SSR secure the tomb where the Nazis are digging for the Black Sun.

They approach the tomb to meet with Agent Carter, who has been undercover with the Nazi expedition for some time now. Inside they find the dreadful Herr Kulbe already packing up Barbarossa’s occult mosaic…

Below the surface of the desert, accessible only by two ruined temples is the tomb where the Black Sun was located
Agent Carter leads the Marines down
Kerschner, with a few guards and native porters and guides is making his way up with the most valuable artefacts
Vogl, with her wolf and her compatriots is guarding the main cult shrine
Blazkowicz has sneaked into the complex, overcoming the first Nazi guard, when he encounters some strange creature. He's no zoo buff, but he knows this gribbly thing ain't natural
The Marines set up a neat pincer manoeuvre, aiming to take control of both main corridors into the tomb
One of the other Nazi guards turns out to be an SSR infiltrator, but he's not able to take out Vogl and she guns him down
Carter has a close brush with death as Vogl charges down the corridor, though she escapes with a hefty dose of luck
Carter's dead-eye aim with her pistol wounds Kerschner and sends him scurrying into a corner
Vogl catches this unwary marine...
But Blazkowicz and another one come to his aid, gunning down two of Vogl's henchwomen
Carter takes the fight to Kerschner, but is unable to stop him as he leads his trusty native porter past her and to the exit
They're but yards away from a car with will take them away from danger and back to the main camp where reinforcements will surely drive the SSR back
Carter exchanges fire with him, but her keen eye fails her this once
Blazkowicz makes no mistake as he rushes up the steps to empty his magazine into Kerschner's body and take control of the artefact!

Actually, I played this scenario out three times on the Sunday, and each time was about as close as this one, with only inches between defeat and victory

Infiltration

Having landed their small biplane in the desert, Blazkowicz and Coulson meet with their local guide and make their way to a nearby oasis where they are due to meet up with Agent Waterson. However when they arrive the small settlement is overrun with Nazis.

The agents must defeat the Nazis and break through to the dig site beyond.

The quiet outpost has a small Nazi presence, but beyond a nearby hill is an incoming foot patrol
Neumann and Pfeil amble around near the oasis - they can't see anything untoward at the moment
Blazkowicz and Coulson cross the open ground around the flank, led by the able Haddo
The Germans leap into action as their caught between two fires - Waterson's group inside the cordon take fire from Heinz
With Hisham badly wounded, Waterson and Nazir race around the house to team up with Blazkowicz
Well in advance of Bachmann's patrol, Bauer charges through to the Oasis to take cover there and fire at the infiltrators
Our heroes are beset on all sides and things are looking grim
Waterson leaps forward, firing at Heinz and his cronies as she advances. She takes them all down, before she vanquishes Heinz in fearsome hand-to-hand
Nazir's attempt to get control of the car ends badly, advancing unseen from the house, Pfeil guns him down.
Bauer reaches the car and empties his sub-machine gun at the agents, killing Haddo and Coulson outright but failing to scratch Blazkowicz
Despite being outnumbered, Blazkowicz charges in, chucking a grenade into the car and suppressing (the hell out of) the nearby Nazis
Waterson races over to the stricken Hisham, smacking her rifle stock into the head of the German who was about to execute him. They have to secure Blazkowicz' escape
His Tommy Gun irretrievably jammed (to a freak rifle shot) Blazkowicz considers discretion to be the better part of valour and runs for it, taking cover behind the house.
The Nazis follow
But Waterson, from a significant vantage point, fires, wounding the over-eager Bauer and giving her surviving teammates a chance to escape.

Blazkowicz' infiltration was successful, but at a terrible cost, losing one agent and all their local allies...

Black Sun - Teaser

So, it's been quite a while since I've been here. I've been gaming a bit, but seem to have lost my mojo for blogging. If you have any ideas/lessons for how to reinvigorate this aspect, please let me know!

But now, back to semi-regular service!

Black Sun

Dr. Ernst Lehman, previously a member of the mysterious Thule Society, but now leading scientist with Himmler’s Ahnenerbe has organised an expedition to a ruined temple in Libya where he believes Frederick Barbarossa’s legendary Black Sun mosaic is lost. This could be the key to victory in the Nazi’s quest for world domination.

Renowned adventurer, Bill Blazkowicz is racing Lehman to the lost temple. Along with a small band of companions, he must thwart the Nazi’s insane plans.

In this three-part campaign, play out Blazkowicz’s daring game of cat-and-mouse against his Nazi foes as he attempts to keep the occult power of the Black Sun from changing the fate of the world!

I'll be running this three-part campaign at Gaelcon from tomorrow.

Get to the Gunboat!

Knowing that they were being stalked by something, Schaefer set up defences and waited for it to come at them. The trip wires and mines did nothing though and now he decides to get his people the hell out of there and get to the gunboat.

Ahead of them, Hamid drags his hostage through the jungle, angling for the jetty where he trusts his dhow awaits him.

Harper and Carpenter go ashore from the gunboat to make contact with the Marines, while Cook and Kennedy 'hold the fort'.
Overlooking the Marines' defences, the Hunter is still cloaked
Shore Party makes contact with the Pirates, they race up the hill to get a superior position, but Harper is killed by concerted musketry
Carpenter hunkers down around the corner and tries to come up with a plan to save his life and the hostage
The exultant pirates go to the top of the cliff and display their hostage
The Marines make it to the river bank - from there they open fire on the pirates in the distance, killing a few of Hamid's companions and clipping the hostage's leg
Eyeing up the river crossing, Schaefer has his men take cover behind a rock formation
The Hunter de-cloaks
and leaps down to move towards bridge
Carpenter rushes back up the hill and takes on Hamid's sword with his bayonet
Having no time to finish the slaver, Carpenter scampers back to the foot of the hill and hides in the undergrowth as more pirates arrive on the scene
Hunter tries to cut off the Marines at the bridge, but they're still taking their time crossing the river
Kennedy urges the wounded hostage back to his feet and over to the gunboat - raking the nearby pirates with his tommy gun as he does
Rushing into wreak havoc, the Hunter survives the snapshot from Schaefer as he runs past
Blaine and Billy go down as the Hunter unsheathes wicked wrist blades
Gunfire from Schaefer and Hawkins sees Hunter unscathed, but return fire from the Hunter's shoulder cannon vaporises Schaefer's weapon
Schaefer somehow avoids the Hunter's wrist blades but drive him backwards - he shouts out for Hawkins to run for it!
Hamid has scrambled down the cliff face, ignoring the pain from his leg and making towards the shore - Kennedy watches the carnage ashore and tells Cook to fire up the engines
Schaefer withdraws firing his trusty M1911 but it has no effect and as the Hunter turns towards him Schaefer drops it and raises his fists. The Hunter accepts the challenge and the wrist blades withdraw. Within moments Schaefer goes down crippled, and it's only then that the Hunter notices the rest of his prey is in danger of escaping!
Cook stands guard at the rear, bearing the old reliable Springfield 1903, while Kennedy is at the prow. The hostage has been given a quick tutorial and is at the wheel
Pirate scrambles past crocodile to swim aboard, but instead of making common cause with the sailors, he attacks Cook with his sword (but is dispatched back into the river!)
The Hunter arrives with preternatural speed at the jetty and leaps across to the gunboat!
It guts Cook without too much trouble and looks to enter the engine room
But only gets a faceful of lead from Kennedy for his trouble (destroying its useful mask)
Further fire from Hawkins damages the shoulder cannon and it withdraws back to shore to think again
With no way of chasing the gunboat, the Hunter disappears back into the jungle. Back on the bank of the stream Schaefer struggles to bind his wounds and salvage what he can for his last stand...
